In July, Dr Darrell Bowyer, Managing Director of IMIS, attended the Fifth International Conference on City Logistics which was held on the Greek island of Crete. The conference was attended by about fifty world specialists on supply chain modelling and development. Dr Bowyer presented a research paper on the Melbourne Freight Movement Model (FMM) which he had co-authored with Dr Russell Thompson of the Dept of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Melbourne and Mr Fotios Spiridonos of the Victorian Government Department of Infrastructure. The paper was well received, and the set of presentations indicated that aspects of the Melbourne FMM are ‘leading edge’. The other presentations also highlighted developments which are occurring in other international research and operational agencies and these will complement the IMIS research and model development occurring in Australia.
